Press Statement By Michael Kong:

Before the 12th Sarawak State elections, Wilfred Yap and Lo Khere Chiang have been reported to comment on the slow progress of the construction of the flyovers particularly at 6 Mile, 7 Mile and/or 10 Mile. However after the conclusion of the election, now Wilfred Yap together with Lo Khere Chiang are now asking the public to be patient with the slow progress of the flyover.

These flyovers have been under construction for many years. We have seen numerous change of completion dates (from October 2020 to June 2021). Even as recent as October 2021, it was announced by Lo Khere Chiang that ALL the flyovers from 4 1/2 Mile to 10 Mile will be completed by March 2022.

A few days ago, the completion date seems to have changed again when it was announced that it is expected that the 7 Mile flyover will be completed by April 2022. Conveniently, there was no mention as to the flyover at 10 Mile and this is because it will definitely not be complete by April 2022.

Many members of the public have experienced the terrible traffic when commuting from Kuching to Padawan. We have experienced enough delay and therefore I strongly urge Wilfred Yap and Lo Khere Chiang to work with JKR Sarawak to ensure that these projects are all completed without any further extension of time.

While I do agree that construction work can go on, but there should be sufficient diversion lanes to cater to the heavy traffic and public should not be made to suffer so much while the contractors make profits and costs on the diversion lanes.

Certainly, the government must ensure that such diversion lane are constructed and that traffic is also properly managed.
