Press Statement By Violet Yong:

I call upon the Senior Works Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof to ensure his Ministry do come out with immediate action to solve the issue of the stoppage of periodic grass-cutting services for the month of October, November and December, 2020 along the Federal Roads in the whole of Malaysia. For Sarawak alone, the affected Federal Roads is about 730 km in distance.

The stoppage of grass cutting services had started since the beginning of October, 2020 and thereby resulted in many public complaints particularly the concern over the uncut grass is an eye-sore and will obstruct the eye sight of road users thereby causing unnecessary happening of car accidents.

One may notice, the grass is now seen overgrown along Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kalong Ningkan, Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli Road, Jalan Bandar Mustapha, Jalan Batu Kawah and Jalan Kuching Serian Road which are roads classified as Federal Roads within Kuching area.

“One could imagine, what would have happened if the grass is not cut for the next three months? Our Federal Roads will definitely turn into jungle-liked roads”.

I was made to understand that the present government is trying to do some saving by stopping the grass-cutting services along the Federal Roads but any reasonable person will opine that this is unwise move especially the method adopted is done through compromising the public safety.

In my view, the grass-cutting service should be continuous and cannot be stopped anyhow because it will put the lives of the road users in high risk of danger.
