Kuching: In a continued commitment to supporting education, Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has donated RM15,000 to Yayasan Lasallian Kuching.
The funds will go towards the foundation’s mission of providing free tuition to students from disadvantaged backgrounds across Kuching, Serian, Bau, and Padawan.
Yayasan Lasallian Kuching operates 10 La Salle Centres, which serve as educational lifelines for students lacking access to digital devices, internet connectivity, and a conducive learning environment.
The centres are located in key areas such as Padungan, Sungai Apong, Stampin Stutong, and St Joseph, with others established in Bau, Serian, and Padawan.
“These centres are doing incredible work to uplift our students, and I’m honoured to contribute to their cause.
“Education is at the heart of my service to the community. In fact, nearly 80% of my annual MP allocation goes toward supporting educational initiatives,” he said in a statement.
The foundation not only provides tuition through volunteer teachers but also supports basic transportation and food costs for both students and teachers.
It operates without regular government funding and relies on donations from individuals and organisations.
Chong expressed his deep appreciation for the commitment shown by the committee, staff, and volunteers at Yayasan Lasallian Kuching and reaffirmed his ongoing support.
“So long as I have access to my parliamentary allocation, I will continue helping foundations like this that are truly making a difference,” he added.
Yayasan Lasallian Kuching continues to welcome donations and volunteer support to sustain its expanding educational outreach programs.
