Many Sarawakians are deeply disappointed over the Sarawak GPS government’s sudden shift in position on the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 which is not only a glaring reversal but also a blatant betrayal of Sarawak’s oil and gas rights.
After years of questioning the validity of the PDA 1974, Sarawak GPS is now fully recognizing the very law that has been used to rob Sarawak of control over its own resources. This is nothing short of selling off Sarawak’s oil and gas rights for the second time and cheating the people of Sarawak yet again.
Now, with this weak and contradictory statement issued by the Premier office, it is clear that Sarawak GPS Government has abandoned those claims and fully recognizing the PDA 1974.
Obviously, whatever statements all these years regarding safeguarding our state’s rights in oil and gas were nothing more than empty rhetoric to hoodwink for votes.
“Sarawakians have the right to know the Sarawak Government’s justification for this complete U-turn”.
If not for the efforts of DAP Sarawak Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen in raising this issue in Parliament, Sarawakians would still be kept in the dark about this critical decisions that sold off our oil and gas rights for another round and Sarawak GPS’s underhanded tactics.
