Press Statement by Peter Hee:

Peter Hee, DAP Miri Youth Chief, urged small business vendors and coffee shop food and drinks stall hawkers to quickly apply for the cash aid of RM1,500 provided by the Sarawak government under ‘Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance’ (BKSS) programme. Successful applicants will receive cash assistance of RM250 credited into their accounts on a monthly basis for six months, namely from April 15, 2020, until Sept 15, 2020.

Peter and a team of DAP volunteers distributed masks to hawkers at Pujut 10 Market yesterday. Peter highlighted that for hawkers and small businesses with operating licenses issued by Miri City Council, they can apply the aid in “Sarawak Pay” mobile app. He highlighted that the Sarawak Pay mobile app is free to download for all. For those who cannot download the mobile app, they can apply to Miri City Council in order to receive cash at Bank Simpanan Malaysia.

Peter also urged unlicensed hawkers such as stall operators in coffee shops who have existing business before 1 April 2020 to register with the City Council. After the registration, they can proceed to apply for the cash aid in Sarawak Pay mobile app.

Peter urged all hawkers and stall owners not to miss the application deadline which is on 31 May. He pointed out that about 65,000 small business operators and coffee shop hawkers in Sarawak will benefit from the programme. This includes operators who rent a stall in a restaurant or unlicensed roadside hawker stalls.

He said that interested applicants can visit the official website of Miri City Council at https://www.miricouncil.gov.my/ and download the application forms which are available both in English and Malay.

Besides, applicants can also visit the enquiry counter at the entrance of Miri City Council Building or at the 2A Floor of the Miri City Council Multi-storey Car Park, or the special counter at the entrance of Miri Muhhibah Market. If there are any questions, enquirers can contact Miri City Council during office hours at 085-442451.
