Press Statement By Michael Kong:
Sarawak has been topping the charts in terms of the number of positive Covid-19 cases for 3 days in a row and has been in the top 3 of the infection chart for the past 7 weeks.
Just when the GPS leaders were trying to convince us that the SDMC efficient in this fight against Covid-19, the recent results show us that things are not as rosy as they seemed.
By taking a look at recent trends, one worrying sign is the spike of Covid-19 cases that came about AFTER the arrival of Muhyiddin Yassin on 01.04.2021. If we look at the breakdown of data for the 10 days for Kuching preceding his arrival, the number of cases in Kuching average at 18.9 cases per day. However, after his arrival, the cases have since ballooned.
Taking aside the first 10 days after his arrival (which is the incubation period as recommended by MOH), the number of cases in Kuching has since averaged 89.5 per day for Kuching alone! This is about a 370% increase in the positive cases within Kuching. If we look at the places which have been exposed, we see places such as the Sarawak Police Headquarters at Jalan Badruddin or Pusat Latihan Polis (PULAPOL). I cannot stress further than to say that these are places that require a high level of security clearance and not a place where the public have access. The sudden spike coupled with the fact that these are places where the officers are also highly disciplined raises suspicion.
During his visit, we saw Muhyiddin Yassin bringing a whole entourage of people along with him. These people were exempted from the usual quarantine orders and allowed to go around in the public freely. Not only that, massive gatherings and/or events were organised for him and his entourage. At a time when an emergency is declared in order to ‘combat Covid-19’, Muhyiddin Yassin still goes around with his “Abah” cult status as if the virus has been successfully contained.
DAP has always pushed for strict enforcement of the SOPs and that no double standards be practised when imposing it. While Muhyiddin Yassin and many politicians may have taken their Covid-19 vaccine, it merely means that they are immune from the effects of contracting Covid-19. In other words, they may still be tested positive and spread Covid-19 around. So until we achieve herd immunity, GPS and their fellow PN politicians should care more for the people instead of organising mass gatherings for their own political agenda.
