Press Statement by YB Kelvin Yii:

I paid another courtesy visit to SMK St Teresa, Kuching, to meet their principal, teachers, staff and also the contractors of their new school block.

I passed a cheque amounting to RM50k from the Minister YB Yeo Bee Yin of MESTECC to be given to the school for their project to build a new school block as well as to rebuild the multipurpose hall that was burnt down by fire on the 29th October 2016.

This is on top of a total of another RM 50k cheque which i passed to the School Board a few months back as the first payment of the RM 100k pledge i made to the school to kickstart their fundraising campaign to build a new Multipurpose Hall.

On top of that, we are working close together with the school and the Ministry to promote STEM learning among the students as well as environmental awareness and innovation.

The Federal Government has recognised the importance and contribution of mission schools especially in Sarawak.

There is also a slight increase in allocations to mission school in Sarawak this year 2019 compared to the year before.

For SMK St Teresa, RM 300k was allocated to the school and an additional RM 220k was allocated to SK St Teresa, the primary school.

Will continue to work together with the school to take care and protect the interests of the students and the teachers in the school.

Would also like to encourage members of the public, alumnis and all to give back to preserve and rebuild one of the historical schools in Kuching.
