Press Statement By Violet Yong:

I call on the Sarawak Government to be more systematic in handling the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC)particularly, to quickly set up a proper counter or website to able the applicants to check the status of their applications as we as to find out the date and place for card collection.

In view that there is no proper channel for public to access for information regarding their KGC’s applications, many applicants have complained that there are confused and clueless about the status of their applications while some said that they do not know where to collect their cards.

Though the Minister for Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Fatimah Abdullah informed the public to call up the welfare helpline at 082-514141 for queries, we were told that the helpline is not helpful at all and instead the public are asked by the operator in the helpline to call another number to find out which ended also useless and could not give clear answer to the public concerning the KGC.

It is disappointing to see that the Sarawak Government is using the KGC for their own political mileage by allowing the GPS political parties to distribute the KGC. Many of the KGC applicants have expressed their great dissatisfaction over the state government for not being sincere in giving out this KGC as many of them still have not received their cards.

The State Government should be more considerate and compassionate in helping the senior citizens by doing away with all unnecessary bureaucracy red-taps and come out with a systematic way to process and distribute the KGC.
