By supporting Ismail Sabri, GPS has missed the chance to redeem themselves for their past mistake.
It is worth noting that GPS was part of those involved in the ‘Sheraton move’. Since the ‘Sheraton move’, Malaysia’s politics has been anything but stable. We always see the ruling PN government being strongarmed by its component parties like UMNO. This eventually led to the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin as the 8th Prime Minister. The only thing constant that we saw during this period was political patronage where supporters of the then-Prime Minister were promoted to head Ministries or GLCs.
During Muhyiddin Yassin’s tenure as the Prime Minister, he has over the past 18 months made a mess of the whole country. The constant incompetency has resulted in over 13,480 deaths and 1,513,024 positive Covid-19 cases!
The current political crisis had given Malaysia an opportunity for this country to have a new government. Instead what GPS has done was to return this country to the same old incompetent government. By supporting Ismail Sabri and restoring this incompetent government, GPS is putting everyone’s lives at stake during this Covid-19 pandemic.
Through this episode, GPS has reaffirmed that its interests are not what is best for Sarawak but instead the interests of UMNO.
