Press Satatement by YB Kelvin Yii:

We donated a hospital bed, adult pampers and some contributions to cover the medical expenses of a 29 year old Malay youth in Kampung Bintawa Ulu who was bedridden due to a tumor in his brain. He has gone through surgery to remove the tumor, but currently still in need of care and tubal feeding among other things.

I paid a house visit to the family to better understand the struggles faced by the family. He is currently being taken care by his parents. I was informed that he was in a coma for a period of time and even when we woke up, he has lost a lot of bodily functions and needed to be cared by others. His elderly parent had no choice but to stop their small stall business selling drinks in order to care for their bedridden son and also their grandson.

We actually met the family during my last visit to Tanah Puteh Klinik 3 days ago to meet the patients and the staff in the clinic. It was there when we saw the family and spoke to them and it was there they shared with me the struggles that they are going through.

They shared their struggles they faced when taking care of him and the lack of proper equipment to properly take care of him including the lack of a proper hospital bed. Before this he has to sleep on an old mattress on the floor and this made it very hard to change him or even feed him. They have approached certain people for help including certain elected representatives but yet did not receive the needed help for months.

So we then made a visit and donated a full mechanical hospital bed to the family on top of supply of adult diapers and also a love offering to the family to cover some of the expenses including the children of the patient.

We also spoke to the family and see other ways we can help them through this tough time as well.

I am so grateful to have met the family and do the little I can to help them.

The family even claims that it was ‘takdir’ that we met and arrived at the Klinik Tanah Puteh at around the same time on that very day that we met.

We will try my best to continue to serve the people especially the sick, poor and elderly regardless of race, religion or background.
