Kuching: Calls are mounting for Sarawak Water to seriously consider upgrading the existing infrastructure, as residents continue to face persistently low water pressure for months.

Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, said the upgrade includes installing larger-capacity pipes capable of withstanding higher pressure and bringing water supply points closer to residential homes.

He stressed that the ongoing water issues, particularly at Lorong Sungai Tapang 3, are not merely temporary disruptions but clear signs of deeper infrastructure shortcomings.

“Residents in the area have been experiencing low water pressure since January, with some households even facing complete water supply interruptions, affecting essential daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and sanitation.

“Access to a reliable water supply is a fundamental necessity. It is therefore unacceptable that residents have had to endure such conditions for months without a lasting solution,” he said.

Kong also noted that similar complaints have been raised across the wider 7 Mile area, including Jalan Sungai Tapang, Jalan Stakan, and Jalan Jamboree.

He said it clearly points to a systemic issue that requires a more comprehensive, long-term solution.

“Many residents have highlighted a key concern regarding the current water supply setup, where water meters are installed far away from their homes, with water being channelled through long stretches of black PVC pipes.

“As water travels over such distances, the pressure inevitably drops before it reaches the households,” he said.
