Press Statement by YB Chong Chieng Jen:

My heartiest congratulations to YB Puan Alice Lau who has been appointed as the new chairperson of National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Alice’s appointment has been a great recognition to Sarawak. This is the first time a Sarawakian hem this position.

NIOSH is a very important organization that boosts our nation’s commitment towards occupational safety and health at the workplace with strong legislative framework for occupational safety and health. This organization plays an important role in complementing the Government’s efforts by providing training, consultations, and information dissemination services to various industries.

I hope that with the appointment of Alice as the chairperson of this organization, she can now do more for the people of Sabah & Sarawak by boosting their working skills so that they are prepared and ready to be employed, especially among the B40 group.

Alice is currently serving as a two-term Member of Parliament of Malaysia representing Lanang. Therefore, as an MP, Alice can also raise policy matters in her debate in the parliament to bring upon government policies to further enhance NIOSH’s achievements. Alice has the capabilities and a good rapport with the government of the day to make this possible.

I must also highlight that Alice is the first women to helm this position and this is another great recognition that the current government has taken upon towards women empowerment.
