Bau: The Sentuhan Kasih Mas programme held at the Bau Bus Terminal on 4 October 2025 showcased the effectiveness of community outreach initiatives in ensuring that senior citizens continue to receive care and benefit from various government and local agency programmes.
Organised by the Mas Gading Parliamentary Service Centre (P.192) in conjunction with World Senior Citizens Day, the event attracted over 500 participants, including senior citizens, students, and their families.
Mas Gading MP, Mordi Bimol, said the success of the programme reflected the strong spirit of cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, and the local community in advancing grassroots welfare initiatives.
“Efforts like this not only bring services closer to the people, but also allow our senior citizens to enjoy government-provided facilities in a more accessible and friendly way,” he said.
A highlight of the event was the free haircut service provided by Hair Vision Saloon Academy and Radhi Barbershop, which benefited 126 senior citizens – an initiative that promoted self-care and appreciation among the elderly.
Additionally, the BAS.MY Kuching Concession Card registration booth, managed by LPKP Sarawak, recorded over 400 new registrations. The card offers special fare rates to senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia’s initiative, helping to reduce daily transportation costs.
The Digital Service Counter operated by the Mas Gading Parliamentary Service Centre also played a crucial role in assisting the public with various aid applications and verifications, including the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB), Sarawak Basic Necessities Assistance (SKAS), Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR), and Rahmah Basic Assistance (SARA).
The strong public response to the programme highlights how people-focused initiatives like Sentuhan Kasih Mas not only improve the well-being of senior citizens but also strengthen intergenerational connections within the community.
Such programmes are hoped to continue as ongoing platforms to empower senior citizens and ensure that no group is left behind in enjoying the development and facilities provided by the government.
