Kuching: The government is committed to ensuring that every eligible dependant of workers who die in the course of their employment receives the protection and support they deserve, said Political Secretary to Minister Human Resources Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen during a recent visit to a bereaved family in Kuching.
“We will continue to ensure that all who are entitled to social protection through PERKESO receive it in their time of need. No one should be left behind,” Dr. Kelvin Yii affirmed.
This message was delivered during a compassionate outreach to Sim Phek Hong, widow of the late Sim Bian Chiang, who tragically lost his life in a road accident on 29 April 2025 while returning home from work. Bian Chiang had been employed as a machine operator at Syarikat United G.I Products Sdn. Bhd.
Dr Kelvin Yii was joined by Sarawak PERKESO State Director Tan Phang Chia and members of the Skuad PERKESO Prihatin Kuching during the visit.
They witnessed first-hand the resilience of Phek Hong, who, despite disabilities (deaf and mute), successfully navigated the application process for the Dependant’s Benefit under PERKESO’s Employment Injury Scheme with the guidance of PERKESO officers.
As a result, Phek Hong is now entitled to receive a Funeral Benefit of RM3,000 and monthly survivor’s pension payments for life.

praised Phek Hong’s resilience and strength, noting that she continues to work as a helper at a relative’s hawker stall despite the challenges she faces.
“We sincerely hope this assistance can ease some of her financial burden and support her continued livelihood.
“We also took a moment during the visit to offer our thoughts and prayers for the late Bian Chiang and to honour his contribution as a hardworking member of our community. May he rest in peace, and may his family continue to find strength in the days ahead,” he said.
Dr Kelvin Yii emphasised that efforts will continue to ensure all eligible dependants across Malaysia are reached, protected, and given the assistance they deserve without delay.
