LPKP Sarawak welcomes the enhanced Budi95 scheme and reduced Bas.My Kuching fare as part of efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s transport sector.

Kuching: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to enhance the Budi95 subsidy scheme for e-hailing drivers, while also announcing a fare reduction for Bas.My Kuching concession passes to ease transportation costs for the public.

Under the new Budi95 structure, e-hailing drivers will now receive additional fuel quotas based on their monthly mileage.

Drivers who travel between 2,000 and 5,000 kilometres will be eligible for an additional 300 litres, while those covering more than 5,000 kilometres will receive an extra 500 litres. Those driving below 2,000 kilometres will not receive additional allocations.

The revised mileage thresholds, determined through data-driven analysis and surveys conducted by the Ministry of Finance, lower the minimum mileage requirement from 3,000 km to 2,000 km.

This adjustment recognises that e-hailing drivers often travel significant distances even when not carrying passengers, ensuring that the subsidy remains fair and sufficient to meet their operational needs.

LPKP Sarawak Chairman Michael Kong Feng Nian said the enhanced scheme would ensure that subsidies are distributed based on actual working mileage, protecting the livelihoods of e-hailing and airport taxi drivers.

“This new structure reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring fair and targeted assistance for all active e-hailing drivers.

“LPKP Sarawak will work closely with e-hailing operators to verify monthly journey data so that the Budi95 allocations are implemented accurately and transparently,” he said.

In a related move to support the local transport sector, LPKP Sarawak has also announced a reduction in the Bas.My Kuching concession fare from RM50 to RM30 for 30 days.

The reduced fare allows commuters to enjoy unlimited rides for just RM1 per day, making public transport more affordable and accessible to residents within the Greater Kuching area.

Michael Kong said the initiative reflects LPKP Sarawak’s continuous efforts to improve the affordability, convenience, and efficiency of public transport services.

“We remain committed to working with the Ministry of Transport and other agencies to strengthen Sarawak’s transport ecosystem, ensuring that both drivers and commuters benefit from an inclusive and sustainable system,” he added.

LPKP Sarawak will continue to monitor and refine the implementation of both initiatives to ensure they effectively meet the needs of the community and contribute to a fair, transparent, and efficient transportation framework.
