Kuching: Today, we gather here with great excitement to witness the completion of the renovation and the official opening of the Sarawak Democratic Action Party headquarters. The significance of today goes far beyond the refurbishment of a building. This is an important moment to reflect on our struggle, reaffirm our direction, and fully prepare ourselves for the future.
As the Chairman of the Organising Committee for this opening ceremony, I wish to emphasise that this renovation was not carried out for formality or grandeur but to enable the Democratic Action Party in Sarawak to continue our struggle in a more organised, systematic, and effective manner.
The Democratic Action Party has never been a party of temporary enthusiasm. It is a party with clear principles of struggle and deep historical roots.
Our principles are clear and have never changed. We oppose corruption, defend democracy, pursue justice, and speak up for the people.
We believe that a healthy society must have strong and effective oversight. We insist that power must be checked and balanced, and we have always stood firmly on the side of the people.
It was based on these principles that the Sarawak Democratic Action Party officially entered Sarawak in 1978.
From the time DAP first took root in Sarawak in 1978 until today, the journey has never been easy. Looking back from 1978 to now, this path has spanned nearly half a century. DAP’s presence in Sarawak today was not achieved through shortcuts, but through principles, perseverance, and the support of the people. The very existence of DAP in Sarawak is itself a struggle of principled perseverance.
This headquarters is a continuation of that history of struggle.
At present, the Sarawak Democratic Action Party carries an even greater responsibility to fully prepare for the upcoming Sarawak state election.
The next state election is not merely another election. It is a crucial turning point that will determine Sarawak’s political landscape, the quality of democracy, and the future of the people. In this election, the Sarawak Democratic Action Party must win more seats and build a stronger, more effective oversight force.
Comrades, only through unity can we continue to advance the struggle that began in 1978 to a new and higher level.
Every comrade is part of this struggle.
At this critical stage of preparing for the state election, the entire party must share the same goals, move in step and speak with one voice. Personal interests must give way, and the bigger picture must come first.
Let this headquarters become an important base for our state election preparations.
Let today’s opening mark the start of our full mobilisation, and let the Sarawak Democratic Action Party remain the most trusted and steadfast force for the people.
Let us unite and continue to work hard to achieve even greater results in the coming Sarawak state election!
