Kuala Lumpur: I call upon the Federal Ministers from Sarawak to raise in tomorrow’s cabinet meeting, the following 2 demands to accord Sarawakians with more adequate diesel subsidies under the Budi Madani Diesel scheme, namely:
(1) To increase the monthly subsidised diesel quota of 200 litres (plus 100 litres for pick-up trucks and jeeps) to 500 litres per diesel-fuelled vehicle for Sarawak; and
(2) To include the tipper truck and cement mixer owners in Sarawak in the list of recipients of the SKDS fleet card to be allowed to purchase subsidised diesel.
As Parliament sitting is currently in session, the weekly cabinet meetings are scheduled on Fridays.
Therefore, it is timely that the matter be brought up for approval by the cabinet at tomorrow’s cabinet meeting, given that the Budi Madani Diesel scheme will be implemented nationwide (including Sarawak) commencing on 1 July 2026.
On this matter, I have spoken with the DAP federal ministers and have their consent that, should the Ministers from Sarawak raise the matter, the DAP ministers will give their full support to the suggestion.
The federal ministers from Sarawak have missed a chance to fight for a better deal for Sarawakians in the cabinet meeting that approved the implementation of Budi Madani Diesel nationwide (removing the blanket subsidy in Sarawak), thus resulting in the ONE single quota applying for the whole country, disregarding the vastness of the rural areas in Sarawak and the higher cost of building materials in Sarawak.
Therefore, I urge them not to miss another opportunity at tomorrow’s cabinet sitting, which will be the last cabinet sitting before the nationwide implementation of Budi Madani Diesel on 1 July 2026.
The 2 additional preferential benefits that I highlighted above are NOT WITHOUT good grounds.
They are proposed to balance the vast area, the poorer terrain and roads, and the higher costs of building materials in Sarawak.
Therefore, it is reasonable that we have a larger monthly quota of subsidised diesel and that our tipper trucks (carrying gravels, sands and earth) and cement mixers be accorded the benefit of using subsidised diesel.
Once again, my appeal to the Ministers from Sarawak, as the representatives of Sarawakians in the cabinet, to fight for a fairer deal for Sarawakians.
