Kuching: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has set a goal to equip every classroom in all national schools within the Stampin parliamentary constituency with smart TVs by this year, or at the latest next year.
He said the initiative will involve 15 primary schools and three secondary schools, as part of a broader push to modernise classroom teaching and align education with the demands of the digital age.
Chong said that in today’s learning environment, smart TVs and similar digital tools are no longer “luxury goods” but essential teaching tools that improve efficiency and create a more engaging and interactive experience for students.
He made the remarks while accompanying Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol during a visit to the Kampung Bumbok football field and the opening of a smart TV classroom at St. David Bumbok Primary School.
According to Chong, his service centre has been implementing the Stampin School Digital Teaching Project over the past three years, allocating funds to equip classrooms with smart TVs.
“The programme was first implemented in Chinese primary schools and received strong support from school authorities and parents.
“To date, all 21 Chinese primary schools in the constituency have completed their digital upgrades, with more than 300 classrooms installed with smart TV teaching equipment with a total funding of approximately RM3 million,” he said.
Chong said the initiative has since expanded to include other primary and secondary schools.
“At St. David Bumbok Primary School, all nine classrooms have been equipped with smart TVs, with a total allocation of RM121,500,” he said.
Chong stressed that upgrading classroom technology is crucial to ensure continuity in students’ learning experience.
“Education is the most important investment,” he said, adding that he will continue to utilise his service centre to secure more resources for schools and improve the overall learning environment for students in Stampin.
