Calvin Ohsey has urged the Sarawak Government to provide a clear and official explanation on the administrative status of 15 Singai villages and their position within the Bau District boundaries.

Bau: The Sarawak Government must provide an official written clarification on the administrative status of the 15 villages in Singai, an issue that has been raised since 2025, said DAPSY Sarawak Deputy Chief Calvin Ohsey.

He said the key question that remains unanswered is whether all 15 villages are entirely within the Bau District based on the administrative boundaries currently in force.

“Residents continue to deal with the Bau District Office and receive government services as usual. However, current administrative practices do not, in themselves, establish the official status of each village based on the gazetted administrative boundaries,” he said in a statement.

Calvin said the issue should also be examined in light of the difference in the area of the Bau District stated in two state administrative orders.

According to him, The Administrative Areas Order, 2016 states that the Bau District covers approximately 884 square kilometres, while The Administrative Areas Order, 2022 states that the area is approximately 775 square kilometres – a difference of about 109 square kilometres.

“This difference does not establish that the entire 109 square kilometres involves Singai, but it reinforces the need for the government to clarify whether, and to what extent, the 15 villages are affected,” he said.

He also said Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol had written to the Premier of Sarawak’s Office on September 12, 2025, and October 30, 2025, but has yet to receive a written response clearly stating the status of each village.

Calvin said The Administrative Areas Order, 2022, refers to Land and Survey Miscellaneous Plan No. 1/125 as the plan detailing the boundaries of the Bau District.

He therefore urged the government to clarify whether all 15 villages are within Bau District and, if not, to clearly identify which villages or parts of villages fall within Bau District and which fall within Kuching District.

“If the whole of Singai remains within the Bau District, an official confirmation based on the government’s own documents should be straightforward.

“The people deserve a clear answer, and the Sarawak Government must put an end to the confusion surrounding the official status of the 15 Singai villages,” he said.
