Kuching: The developer involved in this morning’s crane incident at Lorong Stutong Baru 4 must take full responsibility for all damages and ensure affected homeowners are adequately compensated, said Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen.
“The developer must take full responsibility for these losses and ensure that the homeowners are adequately compensated.
“The affected families should not be left to bear the financial burden of an incident that was clearly beyond their control,” Kong said.
He added that beyond structural repairs, homeowners must also be compensated for damaged personal belongings and household items.
Kong said they will continue to monitor the situation closely and extend assistance to the affected families to ensure they receive the necessary remedies, including proper repairs and compensation for all damages suffered.
He also stressed that construction site safety must remain a top priority, warning that incidents of this nature raise serious concerns.
“Safety at construction sites must always be a top priority. Incidents like this raise serious concerns and must be thoroughly investigated to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he said.
In the meantime, Kong said the developer has sent a representative to the site and has given an assurance that they will undertake the necessary roof repairs and make good the structural damage caused.
“I am relieved that no one was injured in this incident. It could have been far worse, and we are thankful that all residents are safe,” he said.
Explaining the incident, Kong said, a crane toppled over and fell onto two houses at Lorong Stutong Baru 4, causing significant damage to the properties this morning.
“I visited the site shortly after the incident to assess the situation. Both houses sustained damage to their roofs, and the occupants will have to relocate temporarily for safety reasons while repair works are carried out.
“For House No. 610 in particular, there is now a large hole in the roof and most of the items in the bedrooms were damaged,” he said.
