Press Statement By Abdul Aziz Isa:

Batu Kitang DAP chairman Abdul Aziz Isa paid a visit to meet with SK Landeh school management to hear some complaints regarding the tremors and rock blasting (rock cutting) that often occur not far from the school.

Abdul Aziz Isa was informed by the school management that a company is currently carrying out stone mining activities on one of the hills located near the SK Landeh area. The tremors resulting from the rock blasting activity can be felt almost every morning by students and teachers. So far, the school management has not received any information regarding the details of the company.

As a result of the tremors resulting from the rock blasting, cracks have formed within the structure of the school building. This does not only worry parents but also could endanger the lives of students and teachers as the school building may be unsafe to be occupied. Another negative factor is that the students’ learning process has been disrupted.

There is no reason why this school building structure should have a lot of cracks as it is newly built and only began operating in 2017. According to Abdul Aziz Isa, the hypothesis is simple – if the cracks of this building structure is due to quality of material, then the negligence may lie with the contractor that managed the construction project. However, if this crack is not due to the quality of material, then it is most likely due to the tremors resulting from rock blasting activities carried out by the company that mines the hill.

Therefore, Abdul Aziz Isa has advised the school management to write two official letters to the Department of Environment (“DOE”) and the Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (“NREB”) pertaining the issues. A complete and thorough investigation and report should be carried out as soon as possible. If the crack in the structure of the school building is due to the tremors resulting from the rock blasting activity, then the DOE and NREB must take stern actions. The Stampin Member of Parliament Service Center and DAP Batu Kitang Branch will
monitor this issue from time to time.

In the meantime, Abdul Aziz Isa and Tadika Kastil donated 500 face masks. The face masks were presented by the Headmaster of Kastil Kastil Kong Ee Xuan to the Headmaster of SK Landeh Nur Sarah Sandra Stephens. Also present were the representatives from the Parents and Teachers Association (“PIBG”) of SK Landeh.

On 13 February 2020, Abdul Aziz Isa donated 906 face masks to 419 students and 34 office staff members as a step to address the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. Apart from that, Abdul Aziz Isa has distributed the Covid-19 epidemic awareness pamphlet printed by the National Information Department (“JAPEN”).

Abdul Aziz Isa assured that his party through the Stampin Member of Parliament Service Center will continue to provide assistance and support to SK Landeh in effort to develop the school infrastructure, strengthen the education system and increase welfare assistance to students.
