Petrajaya: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has highlighted the ongoing struggle of 69-year-old Norasmara, whose house was damaged by the Kuching Central Sewerage Project and who has yet to receive compensation three years after it was approved.
Chong said, Norasmara bought her house in Petrajaya in October 2022, and after it was damaged by the sewerage project, a government agency approved compensation of RM166,000 in March 2023.
“However, despite being officially registered as the property owner with the Land Registry by December 2022, the compensation was still paid to the beneficiaries of the previous registered owner who had passed away in 2022.
“Under the circumstances, the beneficiaries of the estate of the previous house owner, after receiving the money, should either return the money to the authority or pay the current house owner the compensation amount,” he said in a statement.
Chong added, knowing that they no longer have any interest in the house and thus the compensation; therefore, the beneficiaries of the estate of the previous house owner chose to keep the money.
“This is an act of fraud,” he said.
Chong explained that Norasmara has resorted to all avenues, including lodging a police report against the beneficiaries, seeking the assistance of the elected representatives in the area, and commencing civil action in Court.
“After three years of running around and waiting, her effort did not come to fruition. She has paid thousands of Ringgit to engage a lawyer to sue and finally obtained an Order against some of the beneficiaries. Still, such Order remains a paper judgment, as the beneficiaries are nowhere to be found, and thus, she cannot execute the order.
“Despite a police report having been lodged in July 2024, none of the culprits was arrested,” he said.
Norasmara came to see Chong after feeling helpless and frustrated.
She met Chong to seek help, hoping that the authority would take responsibility for the matter and pay her the compensation that she rightfully deserves.
“I have written to the relevant authority to highlight her plight and hope that the matter can be resolved and that she gets the compensation she is rightfully entitled to,” Chong said.
