Kuching: It has come to our attention that a number of commercial vehicle operators in Sarawak have been operating without obtaining the necessary licences from LPKP Sarawak.
This situation is deeply regrettable and particularly concerning, as many of these operators are carrying out work for government-linked companies and government projects.
Compliance with licensing requirements is not a mere formality.
Licensing ensures that operators meet minimum safety, insurance, and regulatory standards designed to protect road users and the public at large.
When operators fail to obtain the required licences, they not only break the law but also expose themselves and the public to serious risks.
Of particular concern is the issue of insurance coverage.
In the event of an accident involving an unlicensed operator, insurers may refuse to honour claims due to non-compliance with statutory requirements.
This could leave victims without proper compensation and place unnecessary financial and legal burdens on all parties involved.
All principals, including government agencies and government-linked companies, must take responsibility to ensure that their appointed contractors possess the necessary licences before allowing them to commence work.
Appointing unlicensed operators is irresponsible and compromises public safety.
I strongly urge all commercial vehicle operators who have yet to obtain the relevant licences from LPKP Sarawak to do so immediately and regularise their operations without further delay.
The application process exists to facilitate compliance, not to hinder legitimate businesses.
In the meantime, I have lodged several complaints with JPJ Sarawak regarding these unlicensed operations, and enforcement action will be taken against offenders in accordance with the law.
There will be no compromise on public safety and regulatory compliance.
The law applies equally to all, and those who choose to ignore it must be prepared to face the consequences.
