Bau: Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol has stressed that sports in his constituency must remain free from political interference or influence from any party, after his team was informed regarding the cancellation of the Sarawak State Motocross Trackday Series II / 2025, which was scheduled to take place at Serikin Motocross Track, Bau, this weekend.
“Sports are not merely about competitions; they are a platform for young people to learn, try new things, build confidence, and showcase their potential,” he said in his statement on Facebook.
Mordi stated that the event had been meticulously planned by the Sarawak State Department of Youth and Sports (JBSNS), the Region 1 Kuching Motocross Club (R1MXC), local motocross communities, and young participants, with support from the Mas Gading MP Service Centre (PKMG).
He added that PKMG approved funding for the event on 29 April 2025, and many stakeholders had dedicated time, energy, and resources to make the race a reality.
“However, at the last minute, organisers were informed of complaints from local residents, prompting the Bau District Officer to advise postponement,” he said in a statement.
To ensure that this effort is not in vain, Mordi, who is still in Parliament, delegated his representative to hold a special meeting with representatives of JBSNS and the R1MXC Club at the JBSNS Office yesterday.
During the meeting, Mordi said they were also informed that the program could continue, provided it did not involve any VIPs.
“As a Member of Parliament, I cannot pretend that everything is fine. This condition is not only unusual, but also suggests that there is interference attempting to influence the shape and direction of sports in the Mas Gading.
“As if the presence of certain leaders or parties at a sports event is a crime. I am disappointed. Not for myself but for the organisers, for the youth, for the sports community who have been trying to build momentum for a long time,” he said.
In response, PKMG decided to withdraw its sponsorship responsibilities, and the organisers were asked to justify this decision, as funds had already been disbursed.
“This is not a decision made in haste. This decision was made because sports must stand on their own merit, not be compromised by interference. This is not the first time this has happened; in fact, it has also happened in other planned sporting activities.
“This situation further emphasises our commitment to the principles of fairness and professionalism in every action. If we allow something like this to happen once, it will become normal. And we cannot allow that to happen to our youth,” he stressed.
Despite these setbacks, Mordi praised the organisers for continuing with side activities to ensure that the passion for motocross in Mas Gading remains alive, demonstrating the true fighting spirit of the youth.
He urged youth not to be discouraged but to see every obstacle as an opportunity to create their own platform and build something stronger.
He said:
“Do not let obstacles weaken your spirit. If doors are closed, create your own platform. Sports are your right, not the right of others. Mas Gading will continue to build a future where sports are free, open, and fair.”
As a Member of Parliament, Mordi reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that sports in Mas Gading remain free from political pressure or interference, serving instead as a space for youth development, community unity, and personal growth.
He concluded his statement with a message full of determination:
