Kuching: National Training Week (NTW) 2025 has been hailed as a transformative opportunity for young Sarawakians, with Bandar Kuching MP, Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, urging youths across the state to seize the wide-ranging training and development programmes on offer.
In a statement, Dr. Kelvin Yii emphasised the importance of such initiatives for the development of Sarawak’s youth, particularly those in rural communities, longhouses, towns, and cities.
“These training programmes are not only free but highly relevant to the needs of our people,” he said, citing courses in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, technical and vocational education (TVET), creativity, and life skills.
He further added that NTW 2025 offers a unique opportunity for Sarawakians to gain practical, career-relevant knowledge at their own pace.
“Whether through physical workshops, online sessions, or self-paced modules, the platform caters to all learning styles and backgrounds,” he said.
Dr. Kelvin Yii, who is also Political Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources, called on young Sarawakians to take full advantage of NTW 2025, stressing that upskilling is essential for both personal empowerment and the socioeconomic growth of Sarawak.
“Let us equip ourselves with the skills to transform our lives and lead Sarawak into a smarter, stronger, and more inclusive future,” he said.
The week-long initiative, launched on 14 June 2025 by the Ministry of Human Resources at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil, is organised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) under the theme “Learning Beyond Borders.”
Held in conjunction with the ASEAN Year of Skills, NTW 2025 features more than 65,000 free training courses and 1,000 high-impact activities accessible to Malaysians and citizens across ASEAN.
To date, the programme has recorded over 2 million participants, more than double its initial national target of 1 million. About 40% of these individuals have enrolled in Industry 4.0-related courses, signalling a nationwide push towards future-ready skills.
One of the key highlights of this year’s NTW is the AI-4-Educators programme, which was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The initiative has successfully trained 395,000 educators between April and June 2025, earning recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records for the largest participation in AI training among educators.
