Kuching: Public transport in Sarawak takes a digital leap forward with the official beta release of the ‘Kuching Journey Planner’, a mobile app developed to enhance the experience of commuters using the Bas.My Kuching bus service.
The app is now available for download on the Android Play Store.
This launch comes just three months after the introduction of the Bas.My Kuching service’s inaugural Saujana–Serian route, a service that has quickly gained public traction.
According to the Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board (LPKP) Sarawak, feedback from commuters has been overwhelmingly positive, with one common request: the ability to track buses in real time.
Real-time bus tracking and more
The Kuching Journey Planner directly addresses that need by offering several key features aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for riders.
Through the app, users can:
1. View the real-time location of Bas.My Kuching buses, allowing for better time management,
2. Plan routes and transfers more efficiently based on updated schedule data,
3. Instantly access information on bus stops, routes, and arrival times.
“We’ve listened carefully to our community, and we’re proud to launch an app that puts more control in the hands of our commuters.
“While this is still a beta version, it reflects our long-term commitment to building a smart, accessible public transport network,” said Michael Kong Feng Nian, Chairman of LPKP Sarawak.
A call for public feedback
Acknowledging that the app is still in its early stages, Michael Kong emphasised the importance of community involvement in its continued development.
“We encourage all Bas.My Kuching users to try the app, explore its features, and share their feedback with us. Their input will guide future improvements as we move toward a full release,” he said.
iOS users to follow
Currently, the app is available only on Android platforms. However, LPKP Sarawak has confirmed that an iOS version is in development and will be released once stability and performance meet user expectations.
“We want to ensure the iOS launch is just as smooth and reliable. Our goal is to make the Journey Planner accessible to everyone, regardless of device,” Michael Kong added.
Towards a modernised transit system
The launch of the Kuching Journey Planner is part of a broader strategy to modernise Sarawak public transportation infrastructure. With initiatives like the Bas.My Kuching service and now the Journey Planner app, LPKP Sarawak aims to increase public transport usage and reduce urban congestion.
