Kuching: In a major boost to public transport in greater Kuching, the Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board (LPKP) Sarawak has launched the new Saujana – Kampung Benuk bus route today, expanding public transport access to more suburban communities.
The newly introduced route – now the sixth under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching initiative – serves residents in Kota Padawan, Bung Barau, and Kampung Benuk, offering them direct connectivity to central Kuching.
Notably, the route shares several key stops with the existing Saujana – Bau line, including Timberland Medical Centre, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Farley 6th Mile, and the 7th Mile Bazaar, giving commuters increased flexibility and service options.
Bus services on the new route will operate on the following schedule:
Weekdays:
1. First departure from Kampung Benuk: 5:30 a.m.
2. First departure from Saujana: 6:30 a.m.
3. Final service: 7:30 p.m.
Weekends:
Service runs from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
To meet expected demand, LPKP Sarawak will increase frequency to every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours (6:30–8:30 a.m. and 4:30–7:30 p.m.), offering a reliable and timely alternative to driving.
“This new route is an essential step toward achieving a more inclusive and sustainable public transport system for greater Kuching.
“Public transport is a smarter, greener choice that saves money and reduces congestion,” said LPKP Sarawak Chairman Michael Kong Feng Nian.
He urged the public, particularly those living in the areas served by this new route, to take advantage of this facility.
“Your support and usage of the SBST Kuching services will ensure its long-term sustainability and growth as we continue working towards an integrated, people-focused public transport ecosystem.
