Kuching: Public service requires humility, accountability, and openness to feedback, said Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, following recent controversy over the poor condition of waiting chairs at Klinik Kesihatan Kota Sentosa.
According to Michael Kong, an MPP councillor raised concerns about the clinic’s dilapidated seating and urged Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong to highlight the matter so that the relevant authorities can take proper action.
“The issue was subsequently raised by Violet Yong so that patients and members of the public can be treated with dignity and comfort while waiting for their turn,” he said in a statement.
However, he said Wilfred Yap, who serves on the clinic’s advisory panel, later responded by dismissing the concerns as “unnecessary noise” and “social media drama.”
“Such a condescending and dismissive attitude towards legitimate public feedback is wholly unacceptable. Constructive criticism and public concern are essential components of good governance.
“When issues are raised (regardless whether in private, or through press or social media), leaders should thank and act, instead of belittling and attacking,” he said.
Michael Kong added that it is deeply disappointing that the clinic’s facilities have been allowed to deteriorate to this state under Wilfred Yap’s watch.
“The images circulating online clearly show that the broken and unsafe chairs are not a recent occurrence, but rather a result of prolonged neglect.
“This reflects poorly on his responsibility and commitment to ensuring proper upkeep of the clinic,” he said.
