Kuching: A senior citizen, Madam Fam, who faced difficulty travelling to the National Registration Department (JPN) office to replace her damaged identity card, recently received assistance at home under JPN’s My Mekar Ihsan initiative.
According to Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, JPN officers visited Fam’s residence after her case was brought to their attention.
“The officers conducted all necessary procedures, including thumbprint verification, personal data confirmation, and photograph taking, at the comfort of her home.
“This was made possible through JPN’s commendable My Mekar Ihsan initiative, which is specially designed for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and those unable to attend JPN counters in person,” Kong said in a statement.
He praised the initiative as a compassionate step that ensures no Malaysian is left behind in accessing basic documentation services.
“DAP has always believed in serving the people beyond politics; by going down to the ground, listening to the difficulties faced, and working with relevant agencies to find practical solutions.
“This small but meaningful act shows how much can be achieved when there is a genuine willingness to serve,” he added.
Kong also expressed gratitude to JPN for their swift cooperation and hoped more people in similar circumstances would benefit from the programme.
