Kuching: The first group of victims of the Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) investment scam committed by some errant BSN employees has received full refunds of their lost funds, marking an early success in the ongoing restitution process.
Among the early beneficiaries, Dr. Alex Pega and his wife, Leona Hetty, each had received the full refund of RM200,000, and his sister had also received the refund of RM300,000 from BSN last week.
DAP Sarawak Chairman and Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen welcomed the development but stressed that work remains to be done.
“I am glad that BSN has sped up the process of the refund. As there are many victims involved, and each has different facts, the refund will be carried out in stages.
“Meanwhile, my assistant, Michael Kong, and I will continue to monitor the matter to ensure that all victims who have complained through us will receive their respective refunds from BSN,” he said after being visited by Dr. Alex and his wife at his office to extend their appreciation for the help provided in securing the refunds today.
Dr. Alex and his wife had earlier sought assistance from Chong, who is also ADUN for Padungan, on 28 November 2025, after suspecting that they had been scammed through an investment scheme linked to a BSN employee.
Following their case being raised and pursued, more individuals subsequently came forward to seek assistance after realising they had fallen victim to the same modus operandi.
To date, more than 70 victims have lodged reports, with combined losses exceeding RM11 million. The growing number of cases underscores the scale of the scam and the urgency of ensuring that all affected individuals receive appropriate redress.
