Kuching: Helping families cope with the rising cost of living remained the focus of Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen’s Service Centre as it carried out its third Market Voucher Distribution Programme today, benefiting eligible low-income households.

The programme saw 500 vouchers worth RM30 each distributed to eligible recipients at the DAP Kuching Headquarters, with all vouchers fully allocated within a short period due to strong public response.

Hundreds of residents arrived early and queued patiently before the counters opened, reflecting the continued demand for practical assistance to help ease household expenses.

The vouchers can be redeemed at designated participating stalls at Kenyalang Wet Market, allowing recipients to purchase daily necessities while supporting local hawkers and small traders.

Dr Kelvin Yii said the programme was aimed at providing direct assistance to families struggling with increasing living costs.

“Our priority is to help ease the financial burden of low-income households. Even a modest amount can make a meaningful difference when families are trying to stretch every ringgit for food and other essential needs,” he said.

The Kenyalang distribution marked the third round of the market voucher initiative, following earlier distribution exercises at Petanak Market and Sungai Maong Market.

Dr Kelvin Yii reminded all successful recipients that the vouchers must be redeemed on Saturday, 8 August 2026, from 8.30 am to 11 am, at the designated participating stalls in Kenyalang Wet Market.

He added that the vouchers are valid only during the specified redemption period and will expire afterwards, urging recipients to redeem them within the stated time frame.

The continued strong response to the programme highlighted the importance of targeted community assistance initiatives that provide immediate relief to vulnerable households while contributing to the local market economy.
