Kuching: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Fun Run 2025 successfully gathered over 500 participants at Kampung Sinar Baru near Prima Semenggoh on 31st August 2025, in an event that combined fitness and community spirit.
The Fun Run, organised by DAP Sarawak, featured three race categories: 3km, 7km, and 15km, catering to runners of all ages and fitness levels.
Families, students, senior citizens, and fitness enthusiasts took part, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.
The event was flagged off by category. The 15km runners were flagged off by Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to DAP Sarawak Chairman Chong Chieng Jen, at 9 am.
Meanwhile, Chong flagged off the 7km runners at 10 am, and Pending assemblywoman, Violet Yong Wui Wui, flagged off the non-competitive fun run, 3km at 11 am.
Chong, who is also the Stampin MP and Padungan assemblyman, commended the participants for supporting a healthy lifestyle initiative while also fostering unity among Sarawakians.
He said the run symbolised the importance of coming together beyond politics, through activities that promote well-being and community engagement.
Organisers reported smooth proceedings throughout the morning, with safety marshals, volunteers, and medical personnel stationed along the route to assist.
The first runners crossed the finish line after just under two hours, while many others completed the course at their own pace.
All finishers received medals, while the top 10 runners in the 7km category and the top 15 runners in the 15km category were awarded cash prizes during the post-run dinner, held on the same day at Theatre Hotel at 6.30 pm.
Meanwhile, Michael Kong thanked the volunteers, sponsors, and participants for their support, adding that the success of the Fun Run encourages the party to continue organising similar community activities in the future.
“The event was not only enjoyable but also served as an opportunity to bond with family and friends.
“It was well-organised and fun for everyone, whether you’re a serious runner or just walking with loved ones,” he said.
The DAP Fun Run 2025 ended with an awarding ceremony and a group photo session, leaving participants in high spirits and looking forward to future editions of the event.
