Bintulu: A Sarawak Day breakfast initiative organised by DAP Bintulu received an overwhelming response, with all 100 traditional Sarawak breakfast sets fully registered much earlier than expected.
DAP Bintulu Branch Chairman Chiew Chan Yew said the initiative was organised to celebrate Sarawak Day on 22 July through a simple, meaningful gathering that brought people together over local food and shared experiences.
He said participants were given a choice between two iconic Sarawak dishes – Sarawak Laksa and Kampua which represent familiar flavours and cherished memories for many Sarawakians.
“The idea behind this initiative was quite simple. As 22 July is both a public holiday and Sarawak Day, we wanted to celebrate it in a way that is relaxed, close to everyday life, and meaningful,” he said.
Chiew said the gathering aimed to encourage people to sit down together, enjoy breakfast, have conversations, and celebrate the spirit of Sarawak Day.
He stressed that Sarawak should be regarded as a shared home for all communities, regardless of ethnicity or background.
“We all live on the same land and share the same hopes for Sarawak’s future,” he said, adding that DAP remained committed to the principles of checks and balances, where different voices are heard and diverse views respected.
He expressed gratitude to the public for their support, saying the quick registration reflected the community’s enthusiasm for celebrating Sarawak’s identity and heritage.
“Although it was just a simple breakfast, we hope this gathering allowed everyone to share the unique flavours of Sarawak and the sense of belonging that comes with them,” he said.
