Kuching: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to simplify the application process and do away with the unnecessary documentation for the Budi Diesel targeted subsidy, saying the current implementation does not reflect well on the sincerity and efficiency of the Madani Government.
In a statement, Chong also said he had conveyed the matter to Transport Minister Anthony Loke and requested that he raise the issue at the Cabinet meeting.
“We hope that this problem can be resolved in the shortest time,” he said.
According to Chong, applicants are required to submit specific documentation from Puspakom and apply to modify their commercial vehicle’s “Body Code”.
“Following the modification, the vehicle must also undergo a mandatory inspection every six months before it becomes eligible for a diesel subsidy card application.
“There is also a waiting period before applicants are notified whether their diesel subsidy card application has been approved or rejected,” he said.
Chong noted that the Budi Diesel programme has been implemented since 1 July 2026 and is now into its third week, yet many commercial vehicle owners who should have received subsidised diesel are still being refused and rejected because of what he described as unnecessary red tape.
Chong therefore also called the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to simplify and expedite the application process for commercial vehicle owners to apply for subsidised diesel usage.
“In the wake of the implementation of the Budi Diesel targeted subsidy rationalisation policy, the Ministry was tasked to process the applications and to determine the recipients of subsidised diesel for commercial vehicle owners.
“The purpose of the policy is simple: to accord to this group of diesel-fuelled vehicles their rightful entitlement to subsidised diesel.
“However, the criteria set by the Ministry of Domestic Trade have created unnecessary red-tape and denied these people from receiving their rightful entitlement, causing significant inconvenience, frustration, and dissatisfaction among the vehicle owners,” he said.
