Kuching: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has called on Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) to stop delaying refunds to victims of a financial scam carried out by a former employee.
In late November 2025, Chong exposed a scam in which a former BSN staff member misappropriated funds from customers while promoting the bank’s financial products.
Following the expose, BSN’s top management reportedly met with Chong and several victims, assuring them that refunds would be expedited.
However, some victims, including a brother and sister, have yet to receive their money.
According to Chong, Stephen was cheated out of RM56,600, and Nancy lost RM57,000.
The reason given by BSN for REFUSING (to this day) to refund their scammed money was because:
(a) In the case of Stephen, BSN was dissatisfied with his explanation of the source of a portion of his funds. While Stephen has transferred most of the RM56,600 from another bank account, RM9,000 of the amount was paid in cash. As such, BSN refused to refund him the whole of the RM56,600.
Most ridiculously, Stephen was even asked by a BSN officer to produce the box that he used to keep the cash at home!
(b) In the case of Nancy, out of the RM57,000, most of the funds came from other bank accounts, and only approximately RM6,000 was in cash from her daughter’s savings and ang pao money. Because of the so-called “suspicious” element with respect to the RM6,000, BSN refuses to refund her the whole RM57,000.
“In this matter, BSN had a staff member who had committed a crime and fraud against members of the public. As a bank, BSN should have the decency to take immediate steps to refund the scammed money to its customer, especially given that the scam was committed by its staff within its bank premises.
“This is not the time to investigate the victims’ source of funds. Any act to do so is to doubly punish the victims, who have been first scammed by BSN’s staff once and then secondly subject to further investigation on their source of funds as if they have stolen the money,” Chong said.
Chong added that several other victims of the BSN investment scam remain unpaid and urged the bank to honor its commitment to refund all victims without further delay or excuses.
