Miri: The Miri City Council (MCC) has been urged to strengthen ground monitoring and remain open to public feedback to improve service delivery.
DAP Sarawak Secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong said an open approach to criticism and public views, including those shared on social media, would help the council identify shortcomings and implement continuous improvements.
He highlighted the role of more than 30 zone councillors and permanent council staff, noting they could be fully utilised to monitor maintenance works and ensure routine tasks, such as drain cleaning, grass cutting, and waste collection, are carried out as scheduled.
“Residents expect basic services to be performed continuously and on schedule,” Ling said, stressing that local authorities should prioritise core functions that directly impact quality of life alongside community activities.
Ling added that while some work is done well, areas such as solid waste management, urban cleanliness, drainage, grass cutting, and the control of advertising billboards still require improvement.
He welcomed MCC’s warnings to contractors as a step toward enforcing compliance and improving performance.
“Continuous improvement, including appropriate action against contractors who fail to meet standards, is vital to protect public interests,” he said.
