Sibu: A total of 24 haemodialysis patients and their family representatives in Sibu received a welcome boost recently as DAP Sibu MP Oscar Ling’s Service Centre distributed a one-off dialysis assistance fund aimed at easing their financial strain.
The initiative, carried out in two batches, prioritised low-income families struggling with the high cost of dialysis treatment.
Representing Oscar Ling, his Special Assistant Irene Wong Lee Ting presented the financial aid to recipients and briefed them on the range of welfare assistance available through both the Malaysian Federal and Sarawak Governments.
She also guided patients and their families on how to apply for ongoing support programmes.
Wong further announced that the Service Centre will host a free two-day health screening campaign this Friday and Saturday (14 – 15 November) at the Rejang Park Commercial Centre, right in front of the DAP Sibu Headquarters.
The health screenings, running from 7.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., will include tests for blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure.
All residents of Sibu aged 18 and above are invited to participate in this event. Attendees are encouraged to come on an empty stomach for accurate results.
Adding value to the event, two doctors will be delivering health talks over the weekend:
- Dr. Siaw Jia Yin will speak on endocrinology (14 November)
- Dr. Daniel Ngu Leong Hoe will discuss cervical cancer (15 November)
“This campaign is part of our ongoing effort to promote health awareness and preventive care in the community,” Wong said, urging residents to seize the opportunity to learn more about maintaining good health.
