More funds, fairer quota needed to drive rural mobility in Sarawak under MyLesen B2 – Mordi

Kuala Lumpur: Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol has called on the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to approve additional funding to ensure the continued implementation and nationwide expansion of the MyLesen B2 Programme, including to Sabah and Sarawak.

His statement followed the oral reply from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) in Parliament regarding his question on the number of B40 individuals who received free Class B2 motorcycle licences under the programme for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025, as well as plans to expand it to schools and higher education institutions.

According to MOT, the MyLesen B2 Programme, implemented in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) since 2023 aims to promote road safety awareness and legal compliance by providing free motorcycle licences to eligible individuals from the B40 income group.

MOT also informed that for future planning, the ministry intends to increase its funding allocation, subject to MOF approval, to extend the programme to secondary school students, higher education students, and B40 youths.

Welcoming this announcement, Mordi said the initiative is a positive step toward improving mobility and economic opportunities among young people, especially in rural areas.

“I hope the Ministry of Finance will approve the additional allocation so the programme can be expanded progressively across the country, including Sabah and Sarawak, allowing its benefits to be shared fairly and inclusively,” he said.

He added that as a representative of a largely rural constituency, he strongly supports the continuation and expansion of MyLesen B2, which directly benefits the people by enhancing mobility, job accessibility, and road safety.

“As a Member of Parliament, I will continue to support initiatives like this that have a direct impact on people’s lives, particularly in improving the living standards and development of rural youths,” he said, noting that the effort aligns with the Malaysia MADANI vision of building an inclusive and competitive society.

Mordi also pointed out that between 2023 and 2025, Sarawak was allocated only 5,700 participant slots under the MyLesen B2 Programme.

“I urge the government to provide Sarawak with a sufficient quota in future phases so that more rural students and youths can benefit from this initiative fairly and equitably,” he added.

To date, the MyLesen B2 Programme has benefited over 69,000 participants nationwide, including school students, university students, JPJ cadets, and youths from the B40 group.
