Kuching: Frustration is mounting among residents of Jalan Kung Phin Heights 2 in Batu Kitang as months of appeals to repair a severely damaged road have reportedly gone unanswered.
Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, visited the site recently and demanded immediate action from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), accusing the authority of neglect and political bias.
He described the road conditions as “appalling,” highlighting several large, hazardous potholes, including one that was deep and wide enough to pose serious risks to motorists unfamiliar with the area.
“This is not just about uneven surfaces or minor potholes. We’re talking about craters that could seriously damage vehicles or cause accidents. MPP’s continued inaction is simply unacceptable,” he said.
Michael Kong questioned the disparity in infrastructure attention between Batu Kitang and neighbouring Batu Kawah, where extensive road upgrades and beautification projects are visibly ongoing.
“The excuse of ‘not enough funds’ doesn’t hold up when major works are happening right next door. Is MPP implying that Batu Kitang residents deserve less because the area isn’t represented by a GPS Minister?”
He also stressed that Batu Kitang taxpayers deserve the same level of public service and infrastructure maintenance as any other part of Kuching.
“This is not just an issue of potholes – it’s about fairness, safety, and proper governance,” he added.
Michael Kong called on MPP to prioritise urgent repairs to Jalan Kung Phin Heights 2 without further delay, warning that waiting until a serious accident occurs would be a grave dereliction of duty.
