Kuching: The ongoing drainage upgrade in Lorong A5C, Taman BDC, is now approaching early completion, a development made possible by effective communication among residents, contractors, and local officials.
Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, said that the project was initially targeted for completion by 2 July 2025 and is now nearing the finish line ahead of schedule, fulfilling the contractor’s commitment to wrap up works by June.
“This is a testament to what can be achieved when communication between stakeholders is clear, respectful, and solution-oriented.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to both the residents and the contractor for their maturity, patience, and willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue,” Michael Kong said in a statement.
He said that beforehand, his team swiftly organised a dialogue session between the contractor and the affected residents after an initial site inspection of the works and received numerous residents’ feedback, expressing concerns about the project’s progress and impact on the neighbourhood.
“This proactive move allowed the community to raise their concerns directly and constructively.
“The contractor, taking the feedback seriously, responded with professionalism and a commitment to address the issues raised. We are pleased to see real progress on the ground,” said Michael Kong.
The success of this engagement highlights the value of early and open communication in infrastructure projects.
