Kuching: A total of 24 students from Stampin Parliamentary received study grants worth RM36,000, with each student awarded RM1,500, in a ceremony held at the DAP Sarawak headquarters recently.

The grants were presented personally by Stampin MP, Chong Chieng Jen.

Chong said that the initiative is funded through his annual parliamentary allocation, aiming to ease the financial burden on families and support students in pursuing further education, particularly those from low-income households.

“About 500 students benefit from this scheme each year, with a total annual allocation of approximately RM750,000.

“To qualify, the student’s identity card address must be within the Stampin parliamentary constituency, and their parents’ combined monthly income must be below RM7,000,” he said.

Chong emphasised that the application process is simple and free of red tape.

“I understand that for families earning less than RM7,000 a month, financing their children’s education can be a heavy burden. That is why we established this program, in the hope of helping them,” Chong said.

The program has been running for four consecutive years, and Chong encouraged all eligible students to apply, reminding recipients to use the funds responsibly.

“I hope that the grant will provide meaningful support for their studies,” he said.
