The Sarawak Government has yet to decide on engaging Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) or any other assessment provider for statewide Primary Six pupils starting in 2026.
This information was provided by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development in response to my question during the DUN sitting in May this year.
Based on this official response, it is clear that the statement made by the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government on April 1, 2024, regarding Sarawak considering the Cambridge syllabus for the assessment, was inaccurate.
It would be more appropriate for YB Datuk Michael Tiang to refrain from commenting on matters outside his portfolio.
“His actions have not been helpful to the public and have only caused confusion. Making inaccurate statements has damaged his own credibility.”
However, the response also mentioned that the Sarawak Government, through the Ministry of Education and Talent Development (MEITD), is working closely with the Ministry of Education Malaysia on the standardised assessment for Sarawak’s Dual Language Programme (DLP).
