Press Statement By Michael Kong:
It is wrong for Lo Khere Chiang to think that closing one section of Jalan Batu Kitang is the only way to enforce lockdown of Kampung Bumbok. Like any Kampungs around Kuching, Kampung Bumbok indeed has many access roads. However, Lo Khere Chiang has conveniently sidestepped the issue on why the authorities cannot just man these specific entry points instead of closing off the entire section of Jalan Batu Kitang.
For example, recently there was a Kampung Tabuan Abdul Drahman (commonly known as Kampung Tabuan Foochow) cluster. There are a total of 8 roads that allows access to the said Kampung. What the authorities did was to place personnel (police, army and/or RELA) to man the 8 access points.
Similarly at Kampung Bintawa Tengah, there are multiple access points too. However, anyone who drove along the Tun Salahuddin Bridge between 16.03.2021 and 30.03.2021 would also testify that personnel was placed at each access point to enforce a complete lockdown of the area.
Lo Khere Chiang cannot deny that this can be done alternatively and yet still yield the same result. So the question here is why is this not done for Kampung Bumbok? Any reasonable person understanding the plight of the people and/or road users would have thought of this.
