Sibu: The Sibu Parliamentary Service Centre, under the leadership of its MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew, has awarded the 2025 First-Year University Entry Bursary to 150 students embarking on their tertiary education journey.
Ling said the initiative aims to encourage young people in his constituency to pursue higher education and strive for academic excellence.
He noted that under the MADANI Unity Government, the Ministry of Education has continued its reforms to support top-performing students.
“Starting this year, all 69 science stream students nationwide who scored a perfect CGPA of 4.0 in the STPM examination were offered placements in one of their top three university course choices. Among them was a student from Sibu,” he said.
According to Ling, 11 students from the Sibu constituency achieved a CGPA of 4.0 in the 2024 STPM results.
“Of these, one science stream student secured a place in their top three preferred courses. Meanwhile, nine of 10 arts stream students were offered one of their top three choices, with the remaining students gaining a place in their top five.
“As part of my ongoing commitment to education, I am awarding this bursary to first-year university students from Sibu to motivate them in their academic journey,” Ling said.
He also urged students to stay informed about national developments and politics, reminding them that Malaysians aged 18 and above are now eligible to vote.
“University students must exercise their right to vote and take responsibility in choosing the government and shaping the future of our nation,” he added.
