Kuching: The Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board (LPKP) Sarawak announced on 30 April 2025 the launch of a new bus route connecting Saujana to King Centre, marking a major milestone in the ongoing expansion of the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching programme.
The newly introduced route, the fourth under SBST Kuching, will serve key residential areas, including Jalan Rubber, Jalan Poh Kwong Park, Jalan Stapok, RPR Batu Kawah, and Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho.
Commuters will also enjoy convenient access to important destinations such as Sarawak General Hospital, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Timberland Medical Centre, The Spring Shopping Mall, Boulevard Shopping Mall, SJK Chung Hua Batu 4½, and Sunny Hill.
LPKP Sarawak Chairman Michael Kong Feng Nian said the expansion will enable the board to create a more connected, accessible, and efficient public transport system for everyone.
“We are heartened to see an increasing number of people choosing to ride our buses across the existing three SBST Kuching routes. With this latest addition and improved accessibility into key residential and commercial areas, we encourage even more public members to consider the bus not just as a means to get to work but also for attending official matters, school runs, or daily errands.
“This launch is a proud achievement for LPKP Sarawak and a testament to our ongoing efforts to modernising and revitalising public transport in Kuching,” he said in a statement today.
He added that, as part of the board’s commitment to better service, LPKP Sarawak has instructed the operator to increase bus frequency to every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours (from 6.00 am to 7:00 am and 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm) to cater to the needs of working adults, students, and the general public.
“LPKP Sarawak is working on another six more routes, which will be rolled out in the coming weeks to further expand our network and serve the community better,” he said.
