Press Statement By Violet Yong:
I call on JKR Sarawak to take prompt action in solving the identified defects at Jalan Tun Razak-Jalan Foochow No. 1 traffic light intersection particularly, to smoothen up the road condition by re-tarsealing the surface of the concrete payment which is flawed.
The standard of works concerning the upgrading works at Jalan Tun Razak – Jalan Foochow No. 1 traffic light intersection which was completed sometime in December last year, is far from satisfactory. The severe bumpy road condition has caused much anger to road users because the public are expecting a smooth riding road within Kuching City.
Furthermore, Jalan Tun Razak is a protocol road and hence any improvement or upgrading works on it must meet the engineering standards and I am disappointed to point out that the current state of the road condition at the specific section is definitely one which is falls short from it.
During my few dialogs last year with the monitoring agency JKR Sarawak and the relevant contractor in addressing the various problems arising from the upgrading road project, I did raise the option of laying another layer of premix on top of the concrete pavement in order to solve the wavy road issue. It is hoped that such an option will be considered and adopted by JKR Sarawak.
I will continue to follow up with the relevant parties so that the problematic section of Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Foochow Road could be fixed as soon as possible.
