Kuching: DAP Tasik Biru has urged the Sarawak Government to provide a clear legal explanation regarding the administrative status of the Singai area, stressing that district boundaries cannot be determined through political assurances or public statements.
DAP Tasik Biru Deputy Chairman Dominic Daon said the statement by ADUN for Tasik Biru Datuk Henry Harry Jinep that Singai would remain under the administration of Bau District and would not be “transferred to Petra Jaya” failed to address the legal issues arising from The Administrative Areas Order, 2022.
He said the Order refers to the boundaries of Bau District and Kuching District, not Petra Jaya, and that the real issue is whether the affected areas of Singai legally remain within Bau District.
“If the Sarawak Government’s position is that the affected areas of Singai legally remain within Bau District, then that position must be supported by legal instruments and official records, not merely verbal assurances,” he said in a statement today.
Dominic said the Sarawak Government Gazette containing Swk. L.N. 65 came into force on 31 March 2022 and revoked The Administrative Areas Order, 2016, while the administrative boundaries are determined through Land and Survey Miscellaneous Plan No. 1/125.
According to him, although residents in the affected Singai areas continue to deal with the Bau District Office and receive services from the Bau District Council, this administrative practice does not demonstrate that the 2022 Order has been amended, suspended, or replaced.
He also noted that Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol had written to the Premier of Sarawak in September and October 2025 seeking an official clarification, but no written response has been received to date.
Dominic therefore urged the Sarawak Government to produce a certified copy of Land and Survey Miscellaneous Plan No. 1/125, identify the affected villages and land lots, and explain the legal basis for the current administrative arrangement.
“If GPS is truly committed to ensuring that Singai remains under the Bau District, there should be no hesitation or delay in producing the legal documents that support that position.
“Until then, the people of Singai are entitled to demand legal certainty, not merely political assurances. The voters of Tasik Biru have every right to hold the GPS-led Sarawak Government politically accountable in the coming state election,” he said.
