Kuching: DAPSY Stampin today dismissed claims by SUPP Kuching Youth Chief Wong Duk Yin that Sarawak continues to be marginalised under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Cabinet, calling the assertion “completely unfounded” and “nonsense.”
In a statement, DAPSY Stampin Chief Soo Tien Ren said that since Prime Minister Anwar first formed the federal government in 2022, Sarawak’s position in the Federal Cabinet has never been weakened.
“On the contrary, Sarawak has consistently remained within the core decision-making circle of the Federal Government.
“Sarawak was historically appointed its first Deputy Prime Minister – a milestone that underscores the state’s influence,” Soo said.
He highlighted that across three Cabinet reshuffles, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has consistently been allocated five full ministerial portfolios, all of which are key national ministries.
These include the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; the Ministry of Works, led by GPS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi; the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development, led by Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, led by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing; and the Ministry of National Unity, led by Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
Soo stressed the irony of Wong’s focus on transportation and infrastructure development, which falls under the Ministry of Works headed by a Sarawakian minister.
“Under such circumstances, the claim that Sarawak is being marginalised is simply untenable,” he said.
He also noted that tourism, one of Sarawak’s key economic pillars, is led by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. At the same time, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man serves as Deputy Minister of Tourism, steering the national tourism agenda alongside him.
“Under Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari’s leadership, Sarawak has championed green energy initiatives, which are now embedded in the 13th Malaysia Plan and led nationally by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof,” he added.
Soo concluded that Sarawak has not been marginalised and urged all political actors to act responsibly, calling baseless accusations “confusing for the public.”
“The only party that has been marginalised is SUPP,” he said.
