Kuching: Congratulations were extended to newly appointed Senator Larry Asap on his appointment to the Dewan Negara, with the move described as carrying significant historical meaning for DAP Sarawak and the representation of indigenous Sarawakians at the national level.
In a statement, DAPSY Sarawak Secretary George Lam expressed appreciation to outgoing Senator Roderick Wong for his dedicated service over the past three years in the Dewan Negara, where he consistently voiced the concerns of the people and carried out his duties diligently.
George said Larry’s appointment as the first Iban Senator from DAP Sarawak reflected the party’s strong commitment towards empowering indigenous Sarawakians by ensuring their participation in national legislative institutions and decision-making processes.
“The voices of Sarawak’s rural and indigenous communities deserve to be heard in Parliament. Larry’s appointment will contribute towards creating a more diverse and representative legislative institution, while ensuring that the aspirations and challenges faced by Sarawakians are brought to the national stage,” he said.
George also thanked Chong Chieng Jen for recommending Larry to the party leadership for the important responsibility.
“This opportunity allows Larry to play a meaningful role in advocating for the people, especially communities in the rural interior areas of Sarawak,” he added.
At the same time, George recorded his deepest appreciation to Roderick for his contributions throughout his tenure as Senator.
He said Roderick had consistently raised issues affecting Sarawakians during every parliamentary sitting and actively participated in important legislative debates, demonstrating the responsibility and capability expected of a young DAP leader.
George added that with Roderick having completed his term as Senator and openly declaring his readiness to prepare for the upcoming Sarawak State Election, DAPSY Sarawak would continue to fully support his leadership and remain committed to assisting both DAPSY Sarawak and DAP Sarawak in delivering a strong and successful electoral campaign.
