Kuching: MBKS has failed in the performance of its duties and the Mayor is answerable to such failure.
In 2024, the total revenue of MBKS was RM149.0 million but MBKS only spent RM98.3 million. In 2023, MBKS collected a total RM112,0 million but only spent RM89.2 million.
For 2024, MBKS’s rate of usage of the revenue stood at 67%. In 2023, the figure was 79%.
For a private company, account surplus is good but for Council which is supposed to be providing services to the people, it means that the people have been short-changed. In general, such short-change of service ultimately will translate into poor drain and road maintenance, poor street-lighting service and poor scavenging service.
For Government ministries and agencies, under-utilisation of fund normally means poor planning and ineffective implementation.
Bearing in mind that MBKS is at times also the implementer of development projects for the government. With such under-performance of its core duties, it will also affect the development projects within the MBKS areas.
Over the years, the total surplus accumulated in the coffer of MBKS stands at RM305.5 million as at the end of 2024. In other words, it can also be said that people living within MBKS have been shortchanged, in terms of under-provision of services from MBKS, to the tune of RM300 million.
My call to the Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, be focus on your job and stop thinking about politics and channelling your energy and mind on politics. If you want to get involved in politics and stand for elections under the SUPP banner, then quit your mayor post and let someone who can focus on the job to hold that position.
